Georgia River Fishing

Many anglers visit the south to do some Georgia river fishing. There are many different rivers throughout the state of Georgia that are popular for fly fishing, including the Apalachee River and the Yellow River.
The Apalachee River
The Apalachee River runs through six counties in Georgia before reaching the Oconee River. This river is stocked with a variety of fish, including catfish, crappie and bass. There are three dams along the river that make it difficult for boaters to traverse the water. The dams create pools of water where an abundance of fish are found, which makes them beneficial for most fishermen despite the issues with boating. Canoes are the most popular form of transportation for anglers along the Apalachee because they are easily maneuvered along the dams and through rapids as well.
The Yellow River
The Yellow River runs through four counties before connecting with Lake Jackson. Most of the river runs through heavily populated areas, but the river maintains a healthy supply of bass and is not over-polluted. There are two dams along the river and there is no safe way to portage either dam. The fishing pools created by the dams have an abundance of fish; however, boats cannot pass from the river to a dam and then back into the river safely. The most popular species of fish in the Yellow River is the large mouth bass, although other types of bass are also present.
Fishing in Georgia is a very popular sport and both the Yellow River and Apalachee River remain popular destinations. They have a variety of fish in their waters and multiple access points for anglers to enter the water.
