Fishing the Kenai River

Every year there are two runs of three different salmon species and every other year there is an additional run of pink salmon. Many of the King salmon weigh over 40 pounds, which makes the river an especially popular place for big fish anglers. All of the fish species are caught by anglers and most of them are used for food. Very few are released back into the Kenai River. Pink salmon is the most prolific type of salmon in the river and is easily caught in large numbers by even amateur anglers.
