Tennessee River

Fishing on the Tennessee River is great for many anglers. The river is approximately 652 miles long and is the largest tributary of the Ohio River. The Tennessee River runs through the Tennessee Valley, which is located in Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama and Kentucky.

Fishing the reservoirs

There are several dams that were placed along the Tennessee River to create reservoirs. Many of these reservoirs are fully stocked with a variety of fish for anglers to catch. Lake Guntersville, which is a reservoir in Alabama, has the best reputation for fishing throughout the river. It is famous for its high numbers of bass and crappie. Other reservoirs are known for their small mouth bass population and many world records have been set from fish in these waters.

The reservoirs of the Tennessee River are the most popular areas to fish. The river does see some fishing as well. Most anglers are fishing for small mouth bass outside of the reservoirs. Night fishing along the river is especially popular during the spring and summer seasons. The majority of fishermen choose to fish from boats along the river instead of fly fishing from the banks. They anchor their boats at the mouths of smaller creeks running into the river, which gives them a better chance of catching channel catfish.

The Tennessee River is a popular fishing destination for large mouth and small mouth bass anglers. The reservoirs are the most popular areas to fish along the river, but many anglers also fish the river itself in hopes of catching catfish.
