White River

The White River in the Ozark area of Missouri and Arkansas is a popular fishing destination. The river has a variety of fish at different points along its 720 mile route.
Fishing the Upper White River
The area known as the Upper White River is located above Bull Shoals Dam. It has a variety of catfish, sunfish and bass for fishermen to catch. Most fishermen who fish this area of the river recommend using crawfish, skirted jigs and spinners as bait. Fly fishing is especially popular along this area of the river.
Fishing below Bull Shoals Dam
The area below Bull Shoals Dam is filled with brown and rainbow trout. Multiple large trout records have been set by fishermen who caught trout in these waters. More rainbow trout are caught in the White River every year compared to any other river in the United States. The brown trout are notorious for their large size and abundance in the White River as well. Hundreds of thousands of rainbow and brown trout are stocked by the Game and Fish Commission every year, which keeps the population up. Some fishermen choose to fly fish in this area when the water is low; however, the majority of fishermen use a boat to fish. Live bait is usually recommended for this stretch of water as it is more appealing to the trout.
The White River is a famously abundant river for fishing, especially for trout fishing. Thousands of visitors come every year to fish the river and try to set a new weight record for the largest fish caught.
